As I sit down to pen this blog post, a whirlwind of emotions overcome me — excitement, uncertainty, and perhaps a touch of apprehension. You see, I'm not a native English speaker, nor am I a skilled writer. Setting up a webpage and writing engaging texts feels both exhilarating and daunting simultaneously.
The decision to go on this digital venture originates from a profound desire to share my thoughts, ideas, and research journey with the world. However, as I delve into the intricacies of website development, a sense of trepidation ensnares me. I lack the technical finesse required in this domain, and my graphic design skills leave much to be desired.
Yet, I refuse to allow these limitations to define or deter me from pursuing my passion. I firmly believe that the journey is as significant as the destination (there is my love for processes), with every obstacle presenting an opportunity for growth and learning. Hailing from a generation and nation where mistakes were seldom embraced (if at all), I find myself grappling with the need to unlearn past conditioning. Life's path would indeed be too facile if I were to succumb to the status quo. Thus, here I am, acknowledging and embracing my failures, mistakes, and imperfections as integral facets of my journey.
Amid moments of frustration and deep self-doubt, I find myself constantly questioning the direction of my path and the effectiveness of my efforts. Questions about the purpose of my actions begin to surface. I feel ill-equipped for the tasks at hand, yet simultaneously, there exists an unyielding thirst for knowledge, a fervent desire to make a difference, and a determination to persevere. It's as if an indomitable spirit strengthens this resolve, compelling me not to give up or surrender, even if success, whatever form it may take, may not ultimately materialize. While I may not possess all the answers or skills, I am armed with determination, resilience (in constant progress), and an unyielding belief in the power of perseverance.
Therefore, as I navigate through the labyrinth of website development and academic writing, I choose to embrace the journey wholeheartedly. Though stumbling blocks may abound, I adamantly refuse to allow fear or criticism to impede my progress. For isn't life, in its essence, about taking risks, venturing beyond our comfort zones, getting hurt, and daring to pursue our dreams?
My late dad's (R.I.P.) words echo in my mind:
"It's not about failing and falling, it's about not standing up again and moving on."
And I wholeheartedly agree with that sentiment. Embracing failure as an integral part of the journey is paramount for growth and resilience. It's okay to pause, to recalibrate, and to introspect — to acknowledge our vulnerabilities and nurture self-awareness. It is okay to sit down for a while when you fall, to take a moment for re-orientation and to cultivate conscious awareness about our state of mind and heart. And I have to remind myself at times that it is okay to not be okay — it is all part of the human experience. And the human experience is one of intensive emotions and deeply impressive experiences. It is a journey of continual discovery and learning, drawing inspiration from diverse sources and perspectives to deepen our understanding of ourselves and the world around us. So, here is a kind reminder to myself inspired by the Netflix series "Unstable", Series 1, Episode 2, min. 17:43-56 :
Just because something does not happen the way you think it should does not mean that I was doing it wrong.
And yet another one to remember:
I am working on a time-line that is right for me. I am, who I am. And if you have a problem with that, that problem is on you. We can solve anything, but on my time-line or no time-line.
Reflecting on the human experience, I find solace in transparency—a virtue often overshadowed in a world rife with disinformation and driven by transient trends. Navigating our ever-evolving landscape necessitates an acceptance of technology and life as they are—interconnected and ever-evolving. This acknowledgement serves as a beacon amidst the labyrinth of concurrent societal movements and transformations. Embracing technology allows us to harness its vast potential while remaining cognisant of its limitations—a delicate balance essential for growth and harmony.
Confession time: In my journey, I rely on tools like ChatGPT and Grammarly for specific tasks, aiding me in proofreading, grammar checks, and APA citation verification. Yet, amidst the technological arsenal, I treasure the irreplaceable essence of human ingenuity, creativity, and intuition. Leveraging ChatGPT effectively demands rigorous research, valuable input, and thoughtful prompts. Engaging with it feels slightly akin to a dialogue with an erudite peer, enriching my thought process and expanding my horizons. Certainly, this dialogue does not replace genuine human interaction, but in a way it is akin to conversing with one's mind and allows thoughts to flow, enabling them to be woven into a meaningful narrative thanks to these opportunities.
In the end, I realise today that my journey is a network of interrelationships woven from the threads of resilience, curiosity, setbacks, despair, courage, tension, and relentless pursuit of knowledge. Each stumble I accept as a lesson, each setback a stepping stone, and each interaction a source of inspiration. Through transparency, acceptance, and a (hopefully) harmonious blend of technology and the human spirit, I navigate the boundless realms of exploration, eager to unravel the mysteries that lie ahead, ready to tackle limitations and boundaries as best as I can.
